Call for Agents in Residence in Chemnitz
(Six weeks from now until mid-December 2019)
Mobility Culture//Sustainability//Urban Development
As part of our MarxMobil project, we are looking for two more Agents in Residence to innovatively and creatively grapple with alternative mobility concepts in the Sonnenberg neighborhood of Chemnitz.
Sonnenberg is the most exciting neighborhood in the city. The residents are blue-collar workers and unemployed people, migrants and refugees, students and creative minds. Streets with empty or demolished buildings characterize the neighborhood, as do the steep hills over which it is spread.
Magnificent Wilhelminian-style buildings alternate with functionally aesthetic prefabricated apartment blocks built in the former GDR. In recent years, more and more "kreativniks" have claimed the free space: a quarter in transition that you can use as a real-life laboratory for your experimental field research!
As a so-called: Mobility Agent, you will develop constructive or disruptive interventions in public space, cause irritation and thus create the opportunity for discussion. The first intervention has already been carried out, and two more, each lasting for six weeks, will be held by the end of the year and will be supplemented by other forms of community participation. Based on the results, a definitive city council motion will be developed to turn Sonnenberg into a model district of urban mobility.
Specifically, we are looking for people who want to apply their knowledge artistically and/or scientifically, pass it on and expand it. Regardless of whether you are an architect, a hacker, a designer, a social scientist, a traffic scientist, a city planner, an artist, etc., what is decisive is your willingness to think and implement the topics of mobility culture, sustainability and urban development outside the box.

We are a four-person team, consisting of an architect, a cultural scientist and computer scientist, a specialist on Europe as well as a public administration specialist. We believe that sustainable mobility concepts, especially in socio-economically disadvantaged neighborhoods, can help to soften social barriers. That's why we developed MarxMobil as an interface project.
MarxMobil is a project of asa-FF e.V., which, for more than 30 years, has been promoting development education, international understanding and new concepts with the methods of global learning. The association shares the co-working space "Kabinettstückchen" in the Zietenstraße, at the bottom end of Sonnenberg, with other Chemnitz initiatives such as Kreatives Saxony e.V. and Klub Solitaire e.V. The building is located directly opposite the Lokomov e.V. Cultural Center, where readings and concerts are held. In addition to office and studio space, we also have fully furnished artists' apartments.
MarxMobil is financed by the Rat für nachhaltige Entwicklung (Council for Sustainable Development) and by the Dr. Joachim und Hanna Schmidt Stiftung für Umwelt und Verkehr (Dr. Joachim and Hanna Schmidt Foundation for Environment and Transport). You can find out more about the project and the club at www.asa-ff.de and www.marxmobil.de.
